Richard Douglas (Doug) Cox, II age 54, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at his home. Born to parents Richard Cox and Ladona (Sorrels) Love on February 23, 1972, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Doug graduated from Carrollton High School, Carrollton, MO in 1990. He was a talented musician with a great singing voice. His musical accomplishments include musicals, drumming in high school bands and later, playing guitar and singing in bands. His sweet musical riffs raised many a skirt.
During high school he worked after school and summers at the family business, Richard Cox Manufacturing Co. building portable cattle feeders where he became an excellent welder. Later he worked as a metal fabricator with Caterpiller in Oklahoma City before returning home to Carrollton. Doug managed the family business for over a decade, making safety and operating improvements to the feeder design.
Doug lived to hunt and fish, and operated a waterfowl hunting guide service. His best days were spent in his duck blind on his farm in Norborne. He was relentless in his pursuit of waterfowl. His knowledge and command over the hunting fields earned him the nickname “The General.” Doug traveled to hunt with friends in many states including Montana, South Dakota and Oklahoma. He cared deeply about wetland conservation, building several wetlands on his properties. He loved to fish on Truman Lake and Lake of the Ozarks in Warsaw, MO.
Doug loved his pets. He enjoyed raising and training Labrador Retrievers over the years that were his constant companions in the home and on the hunting grounds. Over the years, Ace, Star, Sunny and Scout were his beloved hunting dogs. Doug had a gentle touch taming cats that became his sweet snuggle companions such as Scooter, Drake and Bandit.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, Ozel and Mildred Cox, maternal grandparents, Dale and Doris Sorrels, and his nephew, Hayden Ritchhart. He is survived by his mother, Ladona Love (James West), his step-mother, Verna Cox, his siblings, Brandon (Tammy) Bugher, Kim (Michael) Ritchhart, Robert Cox, Katherine (Dan) Riepe; his nieces and nephews; Hannah Ritchhart, William Cox, Theodore Cox, Maddie Davis, Aaron (Gwynne) Bugher, and Leesa Bugher and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
