John Myron Hanks, age 90, a resident of Cameron, Missouri, and former resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri. John was born the son of Howard and Ethel (Buck) Hanks on Thursday, November 28, 1935, in Mankato, Minnesota.

John was a proud graduate of LeRoy High School in Minnesota, class of 1953. Following his education, he served his country honorably in the United States Army, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. He was stationed in Germany as Ammunition Ordinance. After his military service, John embarked on a fulfilling career beginning at the Hanks Farm in Leroy, Minnesota and then Skyview Farms in Farmersville, Missouri. He later worked for Glen Gery Brick in Utica, Missouri, for 8 years and dedicated 26 years to Dean Machinery in Chillicothe, Missouri from January 1975 until December 2001. John was united in marriage to Carolyn Heathman on July 29, 1960. He then married Joan Shaney on February 1, 1969. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1999. John was united in marriage to Carol Sue Graham on July 25, 2000, she preceded him in death on May 27, 2012. He was then united in marriage to Flora Lee on September 15, 2019.

A man of many passions, John was an active member of the American Legion Vern R. Glick Post #25 and a devoted congregant of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Chillicothe Elks Lodge where he volunteered often, he was also a committed volunteer with Meals on Wheels for 10 years. His love for the outdoors was evident in his avid gardening, where he contributed to the beautification of local parks through his work with gardens and flower beds as a member of the Master Gardner Club. John also enjoyed square dancing and traveling, activities that brought him joy and allowed him to form lasting friendships.

John is survived by four daughters: Barbara Woodruff (Cresia Stark) of Greenville, Missouri, Nancy Hanks of Pratt, Kansas, Carla Chambers (Larry) of Trenton, Missouri; Heather Powers (Michael) of Chillicothe, Missouri, He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Cristin Chambers, Cullan "CJ" Williams, Brooklyn Williams, Shelby Bethards, Tyler Bethards (Amanda), Skyler Rhoades (Riley) and Taylor Powers. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Emily Bennett, Caitlin Chambers, Tate Bethards and great-great-grandchild, Kyler Chambers-Shiner, whose lives he touched deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ethel Hanks; wives, Joan Hanks and Carol Hanks; his two brothers, Fred Hanks and Bruce Hanks; three sisters, Loraine Westfall, Marilyn Wells and Hildreth Wilson, and step-brother, Merrill Chesebrough.

Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Register book will be available for signing at Lindley Funeral Home, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Rural Dale Cemetery, Laredo, Missouri, at a later date.
