Obituary

John Owen Fox, age 88, a lifelong resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on September 11, 2026 at Stonebridge Community, Chillicothe, Missouri.

He was born the son of John Dickey and Bernetta (Smith) Fox on March 30, 1938, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. He then attended and graduated from Culver-Stockton College with a degree in Mathematics.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard, where he served for 21 years before retiring in 1988. He spent his career as a printer and salesman at Community Press, which was owned and operated by his father John D. Fox.

During his life, he was active in organizations like the Boy Scouts and Kiwanis, as well as the Christian Church, where he served many roles, from Deacon to Sunday School Teacher to the church board. His passion and talent for music, which was kindled in high school where he played trombone in the school band, led him to serve as the church's organist and sing in the choir for many years.

He is survived by his son, Michael Fox and wife, Tracey of Olathe, Kansas; his daughter, Marcy Fox of Brookfield, Missouri; step children, Andrea Hirsch of Lubbock, Texas, and David (Patty) Kendrick of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren, Allison (Nathan) Henderson, Austin Fox, Matthew (Emma) Fox, Derek O’Hara, Haleigh (Dray) Moss and Shaun (Jennifer) O’Hara; five step grandchildren, Claire, Tyler, Avery, Evan and Emory; and five great grandchildren, Ronan, Jameson, Callum, Carter and Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Lois Elaine Turner Fox; and his second wife, Jolene Kendrick Fox.
