Grace Lucille Smith
Grace Lucille Smith, age 98, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Grace was born the daughter of John Douglas and Mary Cleopha (Thompson) Catron on March 14, 1923, in Mooresville, Missouri. She was a 1939 graduate of Chula High School. She then attended Chillicothe Business College. Grace was united in marriage to Bill Smith on April 5, 1942, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death August 1, 2012. She worked as a secretary for the Soil and Water Conservation Office in Chillicothe, and later for the Constitution Tribune. Grace and Bill owned and operated Smith Grocery Store in Chula from 1946 until 1952, and also farmed North of Chula. She then worked as an OATS Bus Driver, and did many OATS tours across the United States and Canada until her retirement. Grace was a member of the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was also a member of the Manning Extension Club. Grace served as a volunteer for R.S.V.P. and Threads Clothing Store. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and sewing. Grace and Bill enjoyed many winters in Texas.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Vulgamott and husband Kerby of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Billie Jennings and husband John of Warrensburg, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Pat Smith of Chula, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Billy Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas, Amy Kelsey and husband Kris of Agency, Missouri, Abby Smith and husband Chad of Chula, Missouri, Chad Vulgamott of Chillicothe, Missouri, Kerby "Chip" Vulgamott and Nicole Stewart of Imperial, Missouri, Sarah Fromal and husband Steven of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and Jackson Jennings and wife Aana of Fayetteville, Arkansas; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Raney of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Helen Willard of Chillicothe, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; one son, Robert "Bob" Smith; one great grandson, Myles Fromal; one brother, John Catron; two sisters, Frances Catron and Mary Jensen; and one infant sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri.
