George Raymond Johnston, Jr., age 84, a lifelong resident of Breckenridge, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Braymer, Missouri.

George was born on April 21, 1941, in Chillicothe, Missouri, the son of George Raymond, Sr. and Gladys Irene (Jones) Johnston. He was a 1959 graduate of Breckenridge High School. After graduation, George entered into the United States Army, from 1959 until 1962. He was united in marriage to Maylene Bailey on May 28, 1961, at the Baptist Church in Breckenridge. She survives of the home.

George worked for Donaldson’s in Chillicothe for many years. He then worked as a farmer. He retired as Post Master from the United States Postal Service in Breckenridge. In his retirement, George hauled produce for Mennonites. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Breckenridge, where he served on the board. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #363 in Breckenridge, which later merged with the Braymer Tweedie-Murray American Legion Post 117, and as a member of the Masonic Lodge #334 in Breckenridge, Missouri. George served on the Breckenridge School Board, Township Board, and School Board. He enjoyed hosting his annual fish fry on Labor Day weekend.

Survivors include his wife, Maylene Johnston, of the home; one daughter, Shelly Salisbury of Hamilton, Missouri; one grandchild, Ethan Johnston (Clara) of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Grayson Joseph Johnston, and Georgia “Georgie” May Johnston; one brother, Ernest Richard Johnston (Jeanette) of Marshfield, Missouri; one sister, Linda Louise Shipley (Henry) of Breckenridge, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe Johnston; one daughter, Sherry (Billy) Key; an infant sister, Janet Irene Johnston.

Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., with visitation to follow from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kickin’ Cancer with Kindness (of Daviess County) and/or CCFCA (Caldwell County Foundation Cancer Assistance) and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
