Frances Nadine Crouch, age 82, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Frances was born the daughter of Alton and Daisy (Bower) Garr, on February 1, 1943, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. She graduated from Missouri Western State University and received her Master’s Degree from University of Central Missouri. Frances was united in marriage to William “Bill” Summerville on December 23, 1961, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He passed away on March 8, 1977. She was united in marriage to James Crouch on August 12, 1988, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2012.
Frances was an art teacher for 37 years and taught art long after she retired. She was a favorite teacher to many. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she helped start the “Memories in the Making” class and was involved in the Jewell Dowell Women’s Ministry. Frances was on various art boards and councils, as well as the Chautauqua board and was instrumental in starting the Chillicothe Art Guild. She loved to travel, visiting New Orleans, Paris and Claude Monet’s home in Giverny. Impressionistic painting was one of her favorites and she enjoyed sharing that knowledge with everyone. Frances was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Chris Summerville (Teresa) of Braymer, Missouri; two daughters, Cindy Johnson (Jim) of Pittsburg, Kansas and Carrie Pritchett (Patrick) of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Loecker (Tyler) of Yankton, South Dakota, Alex Summerville of St. Joseph, Missouri, Ely Parks of Overland Park, Kansas, Riley Johnson of Kansas City, Kansas, Ella Pritchett of Columbia, Missouri, Benjamin Pritchett of Kansas City, Missouri and Daniel Pritchett of Kansas City, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Oliver and Owen; three brothers, Forrest Garr (Shirley) of Chillicothe, Missouri, Fred Garr of Chillicothe, Missouri and Stanley “Pete” Garr (Dorothy) of Mooresville, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Underwood of Chillicothe, Missouri and Carolyn Johnson (Elden) of Chillicothe, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, William “Bill” Summerville and James Crouch; one brother, Donald Garr; and one sister, Grace Evans.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. A family inurnment will be held.
