He served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1966 and retired as an Army Spec. 4.
Donald was united in marriage to Joyce P. E. Norton in the home of Reverend O.H. Loomis in Savannah, Missouri on June 8, 1961. Donald worked 40 years for Donaldson Company in Chillicothe. He was promoted to several positions within the company and retired as a Tool and Die Maker in 1999. Donald also farmed the family acreage near Sampsel, Missouri most of his life. For years, Don enjoyed traveling to horseshoe tournaments in Missouri. Donald was an avid bowler in Chillicothe and served as league secretary for many years. He calculated the individual averages and team standings. Bowlers selected him knowing that he was honest and would keep the records to the best of his ability.
