Donald "Donnie" Lee Murrell, age 68, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at his residence.
Donnie was born the son of Joseph Wendell and Wanda (Thomas) Murrell on March 1, 1953, in Chillicothe, Missouri.  He was a 1971 graduate of Chillicothe High School where he was a member of the 3A State Championship football team in 1970. He attended North Central Missouri College where he played on the baseball team.  On July 24, 1976, he married Kim Anderson at St. Columban Catholic Church in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. Donnie was employed by Southwestern Bell Corporation as a cable repair man for 36 years before he retired in 2009. He had also been the head of CHS maintenance for the football field for many years. Donnie was affectionately known for as the sexton and the President of the Board of the St. Columban Catholic Cemetery. He enjoyed serving his fellow parishoners in this capacity. He was on the Board at Camp Ki-Li-Ro-Co Boy Scout Camp. He was a past member of the Chillicothe Elks Club 656. While in High School he began coaching Summer Baseball Association, and he continued to coach and manage baseball teams for over 30 years. These teams included the Elks Jr. Legion Baseball Team and the Vern R. Glick Post 25 Legion baseball team. He was the Scout Master for Troop 123 Chillicothe Lions Club, and he volunteered for many 4-H programs.    He was most proud of being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Kim Murrell, a son, Brian Murrell of Chillicothe, Missouri, a daughter, Abby Skradski, and husband, James, of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Patrick and Thomas  Skradski, of Omaha, Nebraska;  three brothers, Joseph Murrell and wife, Roonie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma,  Stephen Murrell and wife, Lisa, of Glasgow, Missouri, and James Murrell and wife Jody, of North Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Stith and husband, Junior, of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Deborah Stith and husband, Michael, of Kansas City, Kansas;  his mother-in-law, Shirley Anderson, of Chillicothe, Missouri as well as several  nieces, nephews and great- nieces and great- nephews.  Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom Murrell, and his father-in- law, Ted Anderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held  at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at St. Columban Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columban Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri, and/or Bethlehem House of Omaha, Nebraska,  and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
