Don Austin Cassada, age 91, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Don was born the son of H. Curtis and C. Myrtle (Curtis) Cassada on March 16, 1934, in Everton, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Vesta Lee Claypool, on August 7, 1955, in Aurora, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2020. Don served in the Unites States Air Force from 1956 until 1966, and was a Captain.
Don had a B.S in Agriculture and a Master’s degree in Education. He was retired as a Vo-Ag instructor with the Chillicothe R-II school district. Don was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe, Missouri. He was also a member of the Green Hills Golf Course and enjoyed playing golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Don loved to play the banjo, mandolin and guitar. He also gave banjo lessons.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Cassada (Suzie) of Mustang, Oklahoma and David Cassada (Carol) of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Joshua Cassada, Kryslyn Bullock, Stephen Cassada and Caroline Irwin; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Hayward of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vesta Lee; and two brothers, Randall Cassada and Wm. Quentin Cassada.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 pm. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
