Obituary

Charles “Raymond” Sweeney, a cherished resident of Carrollton, Missouri,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 91.
Arriving as the 4th child of Harry and Clara (Lock) Sweeney, Raymond was
born on December 2, 1934, in Marshall, Missouri. The family moved to
Carrollton, Missouri in 1938.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Schifferdecker – “his forever
sweetheart” on September 11, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Norborne Missouri.

Raymond lived a life marked by dedication to his Catholic Faith, his family
and his community. He was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish
and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Utilizing every
moment in his life, Raymond was a man who exercised many God-given
directives. The most prominent and long-lasting example was his love and
devotion to his wife, Ann.

Raymond was a self-employed entrepreneur in Carrollton Missouri, where
he owned and operated several successful businesses, including Thrif-T-
Gas, Ray Sweeney, Inc., and Ventek. His hard work and commitment to
excellence left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He challenged
everyone to never quit “dreaming”. By nature, Raymond was an engineer
and never ceased to invent a new way of doing something. He continually
expressed “the older I get, the more I have to learn”.

Through years of entertaining and building friendships, Raymond and Ann
broadened their community and cherished countless social gatherings at
the Carrollton Country Club. Like his father and other family members,
Raymond was also a winemaker. He had a deep passion for sailing his
boat at Lake of the Ozarks, was an active and dedicated member of the
Kiwanis Club and enjoyed spending his free time on the golf course.
Raymond and Ann were avid travelers as well, enjoying memorable trips to
Italy, Spain, California, Florida, and Hawaii.

He will be remembered through the stories he shared of childhood
adventures, work experiences, and a life well lived.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Amy Rosenfeld and
husband, Les of Overland Park Kansas; his daughter-in-law, Erika
Sweeney of Kansas City, Missouri; his granddaughters Caroline
Sweeney (Brian Abel) Washington D.C., Katherine Gard (Nick) Kansas City, Missouri,
and Rachel Rosenfeld-Dlatt (Bradley) Chicago Illinois, and his cherished greatgrandchildren:
Blakely Gard, Charles Pierson Gard, and Avram (Avi) Dlatt.

Raymond is also survived by his siblings: Pat Sweeney (sister-in-law)
Bosworth, Missouri; Pat Calvert Carrollton, Missouri; Donna Sweeney
(sister-in-law) Dunlap, Illinois; Margaret Stober (Dick) Hickory, North
Carolina; Rita Bales (John) Macon, Missouri; Bill Sweeney (Annette)
Carrollton, Missouri; Cheri Sweeney (sister-in-law) Carrollton, Missouri; Bob
Sweeney (Chris) Carrollton, Missouri; John Sweeney Sumpter, South
Carolina; Connie Wiard Carrollton, Missouri and Annette Smith (Wayne)
Carrollton, Missouri, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all who will
continue to honor his memory.
