Betty Lou (Sturtevant) Nichols, age 87, a resident of Browning, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton, Missouri, with her daughter by her side on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Betty was born the daughter of Charles and Lola (Goodman) Sturtevant on August 1, 1933, in Linn County Missouri. She attended her first year of school at Plum Grove country school and graduated from Laclede High School in 1951.
Betty met Duane Nichols in August 1950 and they were married on December 24, 1950. While Duane was away in the Army, Betty stayed between her mom and Duane's parents where she got a crash course in farm life. Betty and Duane started their family in 1955 and raised their daughters on the farm where they lived and worked. Betty and Duane farmed and milked cows until 1990.
Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church, Haseville, Missouri, and was an active member of her community helping out with elections for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Ontiveros of Sachse, Texas, and Linda Dennis and husband, Bob of Humphreys, Missouri; three grandchildren, David Ontiveros and wife, Catherine, Derick Dennis and fiancé, Taylor Kearney, Dylan Dennis and wife, Tierann; and five great grandchildren, Ally Ontiveros, John Ontiveros, Nicholas Ontiveros, Olivia Ontiveros, and Bowen Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; and one sister; Ora Faye Nimmo.
Graveside services will be held at Haseville Cemetery on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at Haseville United Methodist Church, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Haseville Cemetery and/or Laredo Fire and Ambulance and may be left at or mailed Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com .
